Born and raised in Jackson, MS, Russell Welch began playing guitar at the age of 12. While still a high school teenager he was already out gigging, as well as being recognized by Jackson’s press as an “incredible jazz guitarist,” an “artist to watch,” and “one of the best jazz practitioners on the Jackson Jazz Scene.”

He received a BA in Jazz Studies from the University Of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg, MS.  In 2007, Russell received the “Outstanding Soloist” award at the prestigious North Texas State Jazz Festival in Addison, Texas where the USM Sextet was named No.1 College Combo.
Russell has also made a number of self produced experimental pop album’s under the name “Russell’s Eight Track”, and was in charge of Russell’s Eight Track Recording Studios in Hattiesburg, MS.
When not writing bio’s about himself in the 3rd person Russell enjoys playing with Meschiya Lake and ‘Dem ‘Lil Big Horns, along with other groups including his own Gypsy Jazz project.
